A group of pet store owners from New York City and other jurisdictions, U.S. Department of Agriculture-licensed dog breeders and brokers, veterinarians and nonprofit associations have united to form the New York Pet Welfare Association (NYPWA).
The NYPWA was formed to educate the public and policy makers about the responsible pet industry, educate pet industry professionals and advocate for responsible public policy that promotes healthy puppies and other pets  and to ensure that pet owners in cities like New York continue to have access to healthy, humanely treated purebred puppies.
 
The NYPWA has several missions:
To educate the public and policy makers about the responsible pet industry;
To educate pet industry professionals and foster compliance with applicable pet care laws;
To advocate for responsible public policy that promotes healthy puppies as well as healthy businesses in New York, New Jersey, and beyond.
The work of the Association has already begun.  Dr. Nancy Halpern, veterinarian and attorney at Fox Rothschild LLP, on behalf of NYPWA, contacted officials in New York City to inform them of the harmful impact the newly adopted ordinances will have to the health and welfare of pets, their owners, and pet-related businesses, many of which will be shut down by these unreasonable laws.
The Association is hoping that the ordinances, which promote irresponsible pet policies and violate state and federal laws, can be rescinded or quickly amended.
If not, other legal remedies will be sought.
The NYPWA welcomes members from around the country to join the NYPWA to protect your rights as a pet industry business,
and your customers' rights to purchase the puppies of their choice.
