Obituary for Jacob Francka

Jacob Francka

Jacob (Jake) Francka, 84, Brighton, Missouri, passed away in his home Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Jake was born to Procop and Mary (Ruzicka) Francka on February 13, 1934. Jake married Catherine (Katie) Cantwell on April 23, 1960. To this union two children were born, Jack and Cathy.

Jake was a lifelong resident of Polk County, except for two years as he served in the United States Army in Korea. While overseas, Jake purchased the farm from his Uncle Gary Francka, who previously purchased it from Jake’s grandfather, Jak and Kate Francka. He commented many times about the names being similar on the farm deeds.

Jake was proud to have attended the Hayden one room school in Polk County through the eighth grade. He left school when he was a freshman to help his dad on the farm. After his father passed away, Jake continued the family farming tradition alongside his brother, Bill. Jake was often found raking hay on a Ford tractor, always running in high gear.

Aside from farming, Jake was previously a volunteer firefighter with the Morrisville Volunteer Fire Department. He and Katie were also members of the Morrisville Lions Club, Southwest Missouri Resource Conservation and Development as well as the Polk County Soil and Water District. Jake also served as chairman of the Polk County Democrats and the president of the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Procop and Mary Francka, as well as a sister, Rosie Francka.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Katie; a son, Jack (Karen Cox); a daughter, Cathy (Mike) Choate; three grandchildren, Jacob Francka and fiancée, Ellen Castellano, Jason Francka and Julie Choate and fiancé, Nathan Warner; three brothers, Bill (Mary Lou) Francka, Frank (Nancy) Francka and John (Linda) Francka; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Horton and Irene Francka; three sister in-laws, Glendy Lovelace, Abbie (Bob) Bast and Jo Cantwell; a special niece, Vicki Jones; grandnieces and nephews Scott, Austin, Isaac, Luke, Shania, Meleah, Zachary, Caleb and Aubrey; and many other family members whom he loved very much.

Services will be under the direction of Pitts Chapel Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bolivar on Wednesday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. with a burial to follow in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery at Karlin with full military rights. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: David Francka, Thomas Francka, Jacob Francka, Jason Francka, Scott Francka, Nathan Warner, Julie Choate and Ellen Castellano.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Wenceslaus Cemetery or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
